TS Cabinet meeting today, consideration of Muslim reservations likely

Hyderabad: Telangana Cabinet is meeting today. It is likely that in addition to convening the budget session of the Assembly, other issues are likely to be considered. The cabinet meeting will be held at 2 p.m. today.

It may be mentioned that Govt. of Telangana had constituted Sudhir Commission of Inquiry to take stock of economic and educational backwardness of Muslims. The commission recommended 9-12% reservations for Muslims in educational institutions and employment. Govt. had also constituted BCs Commission which held public hearing for 6 days. Govt. wanted to pass a resolution in the winter session of Telangana Assembly for sending it to Central Govt. but at the eleventh hour, it was postponed.

In order to enhance reservation for STs, Chellappa Commission was constituted. In the cabinet meeting, the recommendations of Sudhir Commission and Chellappa Commission would be considered. Govt. is seriously considering convening budget session in the third week of February.

Central Govt. presented budget yesterday deviating from the tradition and clubbed plan and non-plan budget. Govt. of Telangana has also decided to present only plan budget. After receiving grants and tax share from the Central Govt., preparations for the State budget would be started.

Authentic sources indicated that demonetization has cast its spell on State Budget. It is expected that there would be very marginal enhancement in the State budget. In the cabinet meeting to be held today, sub-plan for SCs and STs would be approved. Musi River development and private universities bill are likely to be passed by cabinet today.
