TS seeks “Bharat Ratna” for PV Narsimha Rao; Celebrates 96th birth anniversary

The Telangana State Government today celebrated 96th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao across the State in a grand manner. The ministers, who offered floral tributes to the former Prime Minister at PV Gyan Bhumi on the Necklace Road, demanded that the Centre confer him with “Bharat Ratna” award. They also said PV was a great statesman, linguist and son of the Telangana soil.

Home Minister Nayani Narsihma Reddy, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, former Governor Konijeti Rosaiah, Advisor to Government KV Ramana Chary, several Congress leaders including Tulsi Reddy and family members of former prime minister were present at the ceremony. Narsimha Reddy recalled that PV Narsimha Rao was acclaimed for implementing financial reforms across the nation and fetched name to Telangana region. His services got accolades world over and the present-day leaders should emulate his ideals, he said, adding that PV’s name will remain in the history. The Centre should confer him with “Bharat Ratna” award posthumously, he demanded. The Centre has always been insulting the Telangana region and should take steps to set up Narasimha Rao’s memorial beside Gandhi Sthal in Delhi, he said.

Srinivas Yadav said Narasimha Rao was the first Prime Minister, who introduced financial reforms silently and got name and fame for the country and Telangana. PV, he said, served the nation in many posts and deserves “Bharat Ratna” award. In recognition to his services, the TRS Government was celebrating PV’s birth and death anniversary celebrations across the State.

Former Governor Rosaiah said PV maintained friendly relations with other nations and spread the country’s name all over the world. State BJP leader K Lakshman said PV was the great leader to introduce liberalization policy. The BJP will request the Centre to confer him Bharat Ratna Award, he added. (NSS)
