Two arrested for supplying drugs to prisoners

Jodhpur: A Jodhpur Central Jail guard and another person were arrested this morning for supplying drugs to prisoners, said police here.

The guard, Mukesh Mali, was caught by jail authorities receiving a packet from Kishen Meghwal at the jail’s gate, said SHO (Ratanada) Indra Singh, adding 370 gm of Charas was seized from Mali.

“Both are under interrogation. We are trying to know for whom the drug was meant for and how long they have been doing this,” he said.

“Meghwal claimed he purchased the drug from one Kamlesh in Jodhpur. Now we are searching for him”, Singh said.

Mali is the fourth guard caught with drugs this year. In August, jail guard Ramesh Bishnoi was caught with 49 gm opium during a checking drive by authorities.

A majority of prisoners at the central jail face charges under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
