Visakhapatnam: Two minor girls were allegedly raped by eight persons near Tajangi area under Chintapalle police station limits in Vizag Agency, the police said.
Though the incident took place on the night of May 20, it came to light this morning when the victims approached the police and lodged a complaint against the accused, the police said.
The son of a local politician and a police constable are among the accused, they said.
Two teams have been formed to nab the accused, they said.
On May 20, the girls along with two boys attended Pothurajubabula festival of a local deity held at Tajangi.
They were watching a cultural show when around 10 pm a thunderstorm interrupted the programme, said police.
Both the girls along with the boys took shelter in a nearby school building, the police said.
When they were waiting there, the son of a local politician saw the girls and called his friends, the police said.
They beat the two boys, who accompanied the girls and then raped them, said police.
Inspector of Chintapalle Police Station, A Chandrasekhara Rao said the victims approached the police and a case has been registered against the accused.
