Turkey: As seen in recent incidents involving discrimination against Muslims all over the world, Islamophobia seems to take over people’s logical reasoning.
This Wednesday, two Muslim men were asked to step aside for extra security check, delaying the flight that was flying to Manchester, by 1 hour and 20 minutes after two British Women accused them of ‘making gestures’.
The two gentle men were taken off the plane and were made to go through the security check for second time at Izmir Airport.
Witnesses said the two British women told the cabin crew that they have seen these two men ‘skipping security scanners’ and also making hand gestures delaying the Thomas Cook flight.
The scene was an ‘embarrassment’ as many tourists got delayed to leave the turkey reported a woman on board to Manchester Evening News.
She said “Two innocent Muslim men were marched off plane and searched as two English ladies refused to fly with them on the plane”.
“The result was a delay for everyone and the men flew, while the women were left behind.”
The women refused to fly with the men board regardless of the initial security checks, leaving the captain no other option than returning to the terminal.
A spokesman for Thomas Cook Airlines confirmed the concerns raised by the two British women on board as “unverified” and instead thanked the Muslim Gentlemen for their cooperation.
‘Two customers on this flight were asked to go through security a second time as a precaution, after unverified concerns were raised that the initial airport security check had missed them out’ and also ‘We’d like to thank these two customers for their patience and apologies for any inconvenience’, said the spokesperson, as reported in Independent.
