Two workers dead in cellar collapse in Kondapur; Kin to get Rs 16 lakh each

The families of two building construction workers, who were crushed to death when cellar of a multi-storey building collapsed in Kondapur this morning, will be given an ex gratia of Rs 8 lakh each apart from another Rs 8 lakh each from the building contractor, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan Rao announced today.

Soon after the incident, the Mayor, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and GHMC Commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy rushed to the spot and assisted the relief operations. Two other workers, who suffered simple injuries were admitted to a private hospital and discharged after first-aid.

 

Describing the incident as very unfortunate, the Mayor said the GHMC would pay Rs two lakh ex gratia each, Rs 6 lakh insurance from the

Labour department and another Rs 8 lakh from the building contractor concerned. He also sought a comprehensive report from the officials concerned. The injured workers will be treated at the government expenses, he added. He also announced that Rs 50,000 each will be given towards funeral expenses. (NSS)
