Vacate HCU or face protests: Narayana tells police

Hyderabad: CPI leader Dr K Narayana today lashed out at the police for resorting to lathi-charge at Hyderabad Central University. Narayana expressed his anguish over the deployment of police force at the HCU. “Is it a university or a police camp or an educational institution”, he fumed.
Speaking to the media at Shamshabad International Airport after receiving JNU Delhi student union leader Kanaiya Kumar here, along with CPI Telangana Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and others, Narayana asked the police to vacate the campus to enable the students to protest against the Vice Chancellor’s return. “Else we will intensify our protests in the State”, the CPI leader warned. He also criticized the police for sending out the students from the varsity which was wrong. Kanaiya came to console Rohit Vemula’s mother, who is on protest against VC’s return, he said.
28 students arrested at HCU
In a related development, the police took into custody 28 students from the HCU. The police produced them before a court which remanded them to a judicial custody and sent to Charlapally jail, it is learnt. The students were taken into custody for destroying the furniture in the chambers of the Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday. They resorted to attack the VC chambers for failing to take action against those who were responsible for Rohit’s suicide. (NSS)
