Nice (France): At least 80 people were killed and scores of others injured when a truck driver rammed his vehicle at high speed into a crowd watching Bastille Day fireworks in Nice, France late on Thursday evening. People were seen running frantically from the scene. Reportedly, police shot and killed the driver who drove the heavy, long-distance truck at a speed of well over 100 kilometres per hour down the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront, running over a mass of spectators. Weapons and grenades were found inside the truck. Thursday’s attack comes eight months and a day after suspected Islamic State gunmen and suicide bombers killed 130 people in Paris. French President Francois Hollande has extended the state of emergency in his country by another three months.
