Violence mars GHMC elections

Polling for 150 wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ended on a violent note on Tuesday with MIM workers attacking Congress and TRS leaders.

While the polling was by and large peaceful in other parties of the city, the Old City witnessed one of the most violent elections in recent past. TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir sustained minor injuries when they were attacked by a group led by MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, a group of nearly 200 MIM workers opposite Mir Chowk Police Station. Another MIM group attacked the house of Deputy CM Mahmood Ali in Azampura.

Polling began on a slow note at 7 PM in the entire GHMC limits and it did not cross even 50% in many areas till 5 PM when it closed. As many as 1,333 candidates who are in fray from 150 GHMC wards.

Reports of clashes between MIM and Congress workers were reported from many areas in the Old City. (INN)
