Warne takes swipe at Oz selectors post World T20 exit

Johannesburg: Australian spin great Shane Warne has slammed his country’s selectors, saying that the `wrong` choices in the batting line-up had led to their early exit from the ongoing World T20.

Steve Smith’s side knocked out of prestigious T20 tournament after suffering a six-wicket defeat at the hands of hosts India in do-or-die group match at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

The 46-year-old believes that Australian selectors had messed up with the batting line-up instead of sticking with the proven combinations and consequently the team failed to perform well enough,Sport24 reported.

Earlier, Australian selectors had moved David Warner up and down in the batting line-up. They had also dropped Aaron Finch for the opening matches of the tournament at the expense of Usman Khawaja.

Reflecting on the same, Warne stressed that the opening pair of Finch and David Warner should not have been broken up, saying that the decision had upset the balance of the team.

Pointing out that the duo were more destructive than Khawaja, Warnesaid that the partnership between Finch and Warner would have been an intimidatory factor.

England have already qualified for the World T20 finals after their seven-wicket win over New Zealand. They will now play in the summit showdown with either India or West Indies at Eden Garden’s in Kolkata on Sunday. (ANI)
