West Bengal Police in search of Justice Karnan

Chennai: Following Supreme Court’s arrest order against Justice Karnan of Calcutta High Court, West Bengal Police team led by West Bengal Director-General of Police Surajit Kar Purkayastha, landed in Chennai on this Wednesday, to execute the arrest order against him.

Justice Karnan of Calcutta High Court was sentenced six months prison imprisonment for ‘contempt of court’ on Tuesday by Justice JS Khehar, following his letter to PM Modi asking him to order an investigation against the Judges of Madras High Court and Supreme Court for corruption.

The Bengal Team on their arrival in Chennai, held an hour meeting with City Police Commissioner Karan Singha. He dispatched a team led by Assistant Commissioner for the following arrest of Justice Karnan in the city.

West Bengal Police went to arrest him in Kolkata, following the Supreme Court’s order, but failed to find him there. He was last seen when he landed in Chennai on Tuesday and made a press conference at the Government State Guesthouse to give his explanation about the order he gave against the higher officials.

Police officials say he reportedly informed some of his close people about visiting Srikalahsti, the temple town.

Knowing of his current location, the team landed in Chennai. Went they went along the other dispatched team assigned to assist them, to the Guesthouse, Justice Karnan had already left the place in some other vehicle.

The Police along with other teams is on joint search for Justice Karnan.

They are trying to locate him by tracking his mobile locations and the calls made through his cellphone.

“With the government and fundamentalist forces already muzzling the voice of the press, the Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court must think about whether the order was right”, said Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi President Thol.Thirumavalavan.

He said if Justice Karnan had psychological issues as thought by the Judges of Supreme Court he could have been voted and removed.

Meanwhile, few other advocates have been protesting against the order in front of the State Guesthouse saying Justice Karnan has become a victim to the Court’s order, as reported in The Hindu.
