WhatsApp video foils bid to trigger communal unrest in Deoband

DEOBAND: A Muslim man died on the spot after he came under the rear wheel of the truck carrying Kanwariyas or Hindu devotees.

The incident happened on Tuesday during the annual Kanwar Yatra in Deoband area of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

A 36-year-old man named Wahid from Deoband’s Laheswada locality died after he came under the truck that ran over his head.

Soon, police reached the spot after the incident to prevent the situation from turning communal.

But a viral Whatsapp video of the whole incident showed that the man had deliberately jumped in front of Kanwariyas’ truck.

A man named Alok captured the video of the incident on mobile phone that has been widely shared on social media.

Pankaj Kumar Tyagi, Station House Officer (SHO) of Deoband, said the accident took place around 8 am, and the WhatsApp video went viral around 1 pm showing that Muslim man throws himself under truck, committing suicide.

“It can be a coincidence or a planned case as the man was a little disturbed, as his family claimed,” Senior Superintendent of Police of Saharanpur Babloo Kumar told Scrol.in.

According to reports, the family members haven’t yet accused anyone and no FIR has been lodged this regard.

Earlier, a Kawaria allegedly attempted suicide inside a Muslim man’s house in Muzaffarnagar district’s Purkazi town.

The man named Karan Singh tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan inside Istekar’s house.
