Woman accuses man of rape, police on lookout

Kolkata: Police have launched a probe into a rape complaint and are looking for the accused whom the victim had befriended on the social media, an official said today.

The woman lodged a complaint at Beniapukur police station alleging that Chittaranjan Patro, a resident of Odisha, whom she became friends with on a social media website a few months ago, had raped her.

She alleged that the accused had identified himself as a senior officer of a private firm and offered her a job. She said she was called for an interview at a hotel in the eastern parts of the city yesterday, and was raped by him inside a room there.

“We have acquired the photocopy of the identity card used by the person to book the room. We are also checking the CCTV footage,” an officer of the police station said.

He said four persons had accompanied the accused when he had come to book the room in the afternoon, while the complainant had visited him in the evening.

The woman has been sent for a medical test, he added.
