Hyderabad: A woman named Katta Sridevi running fake marriage bureau in ECIL was arrested by Police on Monday.
Katta Sridevi aka Shanti, 28, a native of Guntur District, moved to city few years ago. Living in Sriram Nagar Colony, she opened a fake bureau named Sai Sravani Marriage Bureau in the same area. The woman used to publish about her bureau in Newspapers inviting interested customers and candidates to register with her.
She also collected Rs.2000 to Rs.3000 as her registration fee with the bureau. She would download pictures of women from the internet and create fake profiles using them.
Later she used to speak with her customers on call pretending to be the bride and reject the proposal for some or the other reason, said the Police.
She was remanded to Judicial custody after being arrested and produced before the court. The City Police registered a case against her under sections of cheating and IT Act, as reported in Telangana Today.
