Woman dies of swine flue, toll in Kota reaches 4

Kota: A 41-year-old woman has died of swine flu, taking the death toll from H1N1 influenza to four in Kota region this year, a senior official said today.

The woman, a resident of Kansuwa area here, died at the New Medical College Hospital yesterday morning, Kota Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) R K Lawaniya said.

She was admitted to the hospital on March 21 with “severe pneumonia”. She was later tested positive with H1N1 virus, following which she was administered treatment for swine flu, Lawaniya said.

Three persons — two persons from Kota city and one from Baran district — had earlier died of swine flu, the CMHO said, adding that another man from a town in Madhya Pradesh also died of swine flu in Kota earlier this month.

Medical teams carried out survey at around 300 households in Kansuwa area after the woman was tested positive with swine flu and identified 24 persons suffering from cold and cough, the CMHO said, adding they were immediately administered treatment.

Safety measures to check the spread of H1N1 influenza virus have been put in place across the region, the CMHO said.
