Younis debarred from rejoining Pakistan Cup, given show cause notice

Karachi: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captain Younis Khan has been barred from the on-going Pakistan Cup after the country’s cricket board rejected the veteran batsman’s apology for quitting the tournament in protest against ‘substandard umpiring’ in the event.
After Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s loss to Islamabad, Younis was exceedingly critical of the umpires and despite his side’s loss by two runs on Friday, the veteran Pakistan star expressed his displeasure with the match officials.

Younis, who had a verbal exchange with reserve umpire Rashid Riaz, later apologised to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for his misconduct and expressed his desire to participate in the remainder of the tournament.

The PCB, however, imposed a fine of 50 per cent of his match fee and also issued a show cause notice against him, asking the player for an explanation in seven days.

Pointing out at the pending disciplinary proceedings, the PCB said that they have decided not to allow Younis to rejoin the team in the interest of the game, the Dawn reported.

PCB chief Shaharyar Khan said that Younis had been a great servant of Pakistan cricket and that it was really painful for him to take the decision.

Shaharyar, however, said that the board would wait for Younis’ response before taking further action on the matter.(ANI)
