ACB caught SI red-handed; inspector absconding

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuth has caught Jubilee Hills sub-inspector red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 and two bottles of liquor.

According to a TOI report, sub-inspector of Jubilee Hills, P. Sudheer Reddy was caught red-handed taking 50,000 bribe and two whiskey bottles by ACB while inspector Balwantaiah, who is said to be involved, went absconding.

On December 29, one M Vamsi Krishna was arrested on a complaint of Akshaya, who runs a saloon. Akshaya alleged that Vamsi had availed treatments for his wife and bought some products which cost Rs. 34,130, but he failed to pay.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Vamsi under section 420 (Cheating) and Section 406 of IPC (criminal breach of trust).

According to the ACB officials, the SI and the inspector demanded a bribe of Rs. 1lakh from Vamsi for doing the official favour for releasing the accused on station bail, and also to delete Section 406 of IPC (criminal breach of trust) against him and refer the case to Lok Adalat.

Vamsi then requested them to reduce the amount and later they settled for Rs 50,000 and two bottles of whiskey by the inspector.

On Thursday, the ACB sleuths caught Sudheer Reddy accepting the bribe and two liquor bottles on Road No 10, Jubilee Hills. The ACB said that soon after the SI was caught, the inspector who was on bandobast duty went absconding and efforts are on to nab him. A case has been booked against him.
