Mumbai: Fondly called as ‘Asha Tai’, the vivacious and versatile singer Asha Bhosle turns 87 today. During a recent interaction with one of the media, the singer said that she feels younger with each birthday rather than feeling old. Also known as the Queen of Indipop, the singing legend has been a part of the industry for over 6 decades now and through her journey, she has given us some beautiful songs which will remain with us forever. She has enchanted the hearts of many with her music and playback singing.

Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle is one of the most precious jewels Bollywood will ever have. She stands as an inspiration for musicians not only in India but across the world.

1. Bhosle’s Music Debut at 10

Asha Bhosle made her debut with ‘Chala Chala Nav Bala’ at the age of 10. Asha Bhosle was just 16 when she recorded her first solo song for a movie called Raat Ki Raani.  

2. Acting Debut

At the age of 79, Asha Bhosle made her acting debut with a Marathi film titled 2013’s Mai. The movie revolved around children who abandoned their old parents. The movie also starred actors like Ram Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure.

3. Asha Bhosle’s Food Chain Across The World

Besides being a music maestro, Asha Bhosle is a skilled cook. Her family, friends and colleagues in the industry love her delicious meals. Asha has started her restaurants known as Asha’s restaurant in Dubai, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi,Qatar, Kuwait, and Birmingham and Manchester in the UK. They serve signature dishes inspired by Asha’s childhood and RD Burman’s favourite meals, with the singer’s all-time hits playing in the background.

4. Guiness Book Of World Record

Asha Bhosle was acknowledged with the Guinness Book Of World Records in 2011 as the most recorded artist in the world.

5. First Indian Singer To Be Nominated For Grammy

In 1997, Asha Bhosle established another milestone in her career graph. She became the very first Indian artist to be nominated by the prestigious music Grammy Awards. The veteran singer was chosen because of her splendid vocals in Ustad Ali Akbar Khan’s music album, Legacy.

6. Asha Bhosle Collaborated With Brett Lee

In 2006, Asha Bhosle Collaborated with Australian former international cricketer, Brett Lee for his music debut- ‘You’re the One for Me’.

7. Music in 20 Indian languages

Apart from Hindi, Asha has sung more than 12,000 songs in over 20 Indian languages, including Bangla and Malayalam. Those are just unprecedented numbers and it’s quite possible no Bollywood singer in the future will be able to top that record.
