CAA-NRC: Police uproot tent pitched for Nikah

BIJNOR: Mistaking the tents erected for Nikah ceremony as that of anti-CAA-NRC protest, the Bijnor police uprooted them.

According to Hindi media outlet, the reported incident took place on Saturday in Mohalla Mirdagan of Bijnor city.

Sabir’s daughter wedding is scheduled for 4th February. Therefore he set up a tent in a vacant land near his house.

All the wedding items that will be given to the bride are also kept in the tent.

When the police received information about the tent, it arrived at the spot.

Police misinterpreted that the tent has been erected to stage a sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, NRC and NPR without permission. A woman had reportedly sought permission to stage the protest at the same place. Hence, the police uprooted the Nikah tent.

The luggage and wedding items of the bride that was kept inside the tent were also removed.

Upon knowing the truth, the police asked the family to reinstall the tent but the family refused.
