Congress- NCP alliance in talks: Sources

New Delhi: Over past two days Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has avoided party leaders but yesterday drove to NCP chief Pawar’s residence to discuss a possible merger between the two parties.

Sources close to parties said the proposal is yet to be discussed but nothing has been finalized yet since both parties have acknowledged massive defeat in Lok Sabha elections which would prompt them to explore all possibilities.

“Congress President Mr. @RahulGandhi met up with me today at my residence in Delhi. We discussed matters pertaining to the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha Elections and the drought situation in Maharashtra,” Pawar posted on Twitter.

“Before leaving the NCP, I had told Pawar that it was time for the party to merge with the Congress. Pawar then told me he will talk to others,” he said.

Sources also said that both party chief’s have analyzed the Lok Sabha debacle and urged Rahul to reconsider his decision to quit as Congress Chief.
