DJS Secretary Saifullah Khalid convicted in cop assault case

Hyderabad: Metropolitan criminal courts at Nampally on Monday convicted Shaikh Saifullah Khalid, secretary Darsgah-E-Jihad-O-Shahadat (DJS) for two years in an alleged assault on a policeman. 

In August 2009 while an Eid Milap meeting of DJS activists was in progress at Moghalpura DJS office, Khurshid Hussain former Head constable working with Hyderabad police Special Branch (SB) tried to cover the meeting upon which  Shaikh Saifullah Khalid objected his presence and allegedly used force to leave the place.


The special branch cop immediately filed a complaint with the Moghalpura police upon which a case under IPC sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) was registered against Khalid.

The police later filed a charge sheet in the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, against DJS Secretary.


On completion of the trial, the Magistrate on Monday found Khalid guilty and sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment of two years and also imposed a fine of one thousand rupees. “I shall file an appeal against the lower court order, in a higher court,” said Shaik Saifullah Khalid.
