Hyderabad: Yesterday, Exhibition reopened for the public. It seems that everything returned to normalcy but the fact is that hundreds of owners of the stalls have lost their earnings. Many of them may become bankrupt if they fail to repay their bank loans.
In the fire accident, many stalls were reduced to ashes. Luckily, no casualty took place. However, we cannot be lucky always. Authorities need to keep themselves ready to fight any such accident in the future. Precautions should be taken. Proper safety measures must be followed.
What went wrong?
Despite taking precautions, fire accidents can occur but the important responsibility of the officials is to keep their staff and infrastructure ready to fight against them.
In fire accident at the exhibition, both staff and infrastructure were not up to the mark to stop the spread of fire. Due to lack of sufficient water in fire tender which was available at the exhibition, fire had engulfed many stalls.
Another reason for the huge loss is mismanagement. Exhibition society had accommodated more stalls in less area due to which firefighters also faced difficulties in extinguishing fire.
According to regular visitors of exhibition, earlier, there used to be adequate moving space in the exhibition. Now, no space was left out to accommodate more stalls.

Talking to media person, one of the stall owners said that exhibition society has not followed any safety measures. He alleged that there was no water in the fire tender which was available at the exhibition. Within 10 minutes, fire had engulfed many stalls, he added.

He further said that instead of setting up a separate kitchen facility, the society had allowed owners of the stalls to cook in front of the stalls.
It seems that desire to earn more had resulted in huge losses.
Way forward
First and foremost, the stall owners should be compensated in order to save them from bankruptcy. To avoid such accidents in the future, precautions should be taken. Proper safety measures should be laid down.
There should be sufficient resources and staff to prevent loss of lives and properties.
