Washington: Saying that it looked like Iran was behind attacks on oil plants in Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump on Monday stressed that he did not want to go to war.
Iran, on the other hand, has rejected US charges that it was behind the strikes. The attacks on oil plants in Saudi Arabia made on Saturday damaged the world’s biggest crude-processing plant and triggered the largest jump in crude prices in decades.
Making it clear that he was not going to rush into a new conflict on behalf of Saudi Arabia Trump said he had not made commitments to protect the Saudis. The Hindu Business Line reported.
A day after saying that the US was “locked and loaded” to respond to the incident, Trump said on Monday “I’m somebody that would like not to have war.”
Claiming that the strikes were carried out by “Yemeni people”, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said it was retaliation for attacks by a Saudi-led military coalition in a war with the Houthi movement.
