HC stays Municipal elections

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court issued stay order on releasing the notification for municipal elections till the petitions filed against it are disposed off.

TSPCC President, Capt. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MP of Lok Sabha had filed a petition alleging that Election Commission is not following the rules and regulations.

The advocate of the petitioner brought to the notice of High Court the irregularities committed by the Election Commission. He pointed out that for conducting municipal elections, wards and reservations in municipalities should be announced which has not been done.

The pleader of Capt. Reddy requested the High Court to scrap the schedule of elections and instruct the Election Commission to release the revised schedule.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till Tuesday, 7th January.

It may be noted that the State election commission was ready to start the election process on 7th January. The nomination papers were to be filed starting on 8th January. Polling was scheduled to be held on 22nd January for 10 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities in the State.
