IMD: Monsoon arrives in Telangana; to reach Hyderabad by Sunday

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced that the southwest Monsoon has arrived in the state of Telangana and it will reach Hyderabad by Sunday.

The IMD also forecast heavy rainfall in some parts of Telangana in the next 48 hours.

“The onset line is showing at 18 degree north Arabian Sea. The monsoon will be passing over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Yanam in Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, North interior Karnataka and Kerala. A warning for heavy rainfall has been issued,” said IMD.

B Raja Rao, an official from the MD regional forecast centre said, “The Monsoon has arrived in Telangana on June 11 2020 and covered the entire Telangana state today.”

The IMD also stated that stray thunderstorms are expected country wide. Scattered thunderstorms are likely over northern inland Karnataka, much of Telangana, southern Chattisgarh and Odisha.

“With the onset of the monsoon in Telangana, Hyderabad city will witness heavy rainfall today and tomorrow,” added the regional forecast centre.

Very heavy rain is expected over at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Hyderabad, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Khammam and (rural) Warangal of Tealangana. A maximum temperature of approximately 37 °C or more is expected over much of Adilabad, Hyderabad, Badrachalam, Hanmakonda and other districts.

In the last few days, pre-monsoon showers hit several parts of the state, including Hyderabad and its suburbs. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) last week issued an advisory fearing rise in monsoon-related diseases in addition to the coronavirus infections. They asked people to remain indoors and to visit doctors if they had symptoms such as fever and cough.
