Indian student stabbed in Canada

HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old youngster from Tamil Nadu was stabbed on Thursday by an unidentified man in Canada.

The injured was identified as Rachel Albert, who was pursuing her Masters with the help of a scholarship from the University.

The incident, according to the Toronto Police Service took place on Wednesday night at around 10: 00 pm at Leitch Avenue and Assiniboine Road when the unidentified assailant assaulted her, knocking her to the ground.

According to family member, Rachel sustained “serious” injuries and continues to be in the critical care unit of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where she was rushed for the treatment.

The victim’s family have sought help from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and have urged him to help them travel to Canada where Rachel is fighting for her life. 

Speaking to TNM, Rebecca, Rachel’s sister says, “We’re not clear about how this incident took place. The need of the hour is for my family to get a visa to visit Rachel. The visa process is complicated. We are still figuring it out. We are seeking the help of the External Affairs Minister.”
