Local bodies campaign ends on Saturday, 69 MPTCs unanimous

Hyderabad: State Election Commission today asked the political parties, newspapers and electronic media or Radio to stop campaign, publishing and airing the news of local bodies polls whose campaign comes to an end on May 4.

The campaign of any sort be it public meetings, rallies or advertisements are strictly prohibited two days before the polls for first phase of polls the poll panel said. In a release the poll body said that there shall not be any campaign on Saturday after 5 pm as per previous schedule. The poll panel also instructed that non locals cannot stay in the villages and towns going for polls for ZPTCs and MPTCs. Political leaders, party workers and functionaries should leave the villages to follow suit. Those who violate the poll code will be dealt with seriously.

In a related development, in local bodies polls 69 MPTC posts were elected unanimously. While the TRS won 67 seats, the congress got two seats. Similarly two ZPTCs posts were clinched by the TRS including Nizamabad and Jagitial.
