MC Chairman seeks report of Uzma Shakir’s arrest

Mohammed Qamaruddin, Chairman, Minority Commission decided to seek a report from the Police Department on the arrest of Ms Uzma Shakir, General Secretary of TS Pradesh Congress Committee.

Ms Uzma Shakir had met the Chairman of Minorities Commission, Mr Mohammed Qamaruddin yesterday and lodged a complaint about her illegal arrest by the police.

She told that she approached the police on August 29, to organize a Dharna Programme on August 31, at Indira Park to register protest against Kashmir situation.

On August 31, she was informed that permission has not been granted. On the same day, 6-8 policemen came to her house and arrested her without assigning any reason. She told in the police station that as a law-abiding citizen, she had withdrawn the Dharna Programme as she did not get permission from the police.

She also told that at the time of her arrest, she was treated by police as a criminal. Her phone was seized.

She requested the Chairman of Minorities Commission to take stern action and do justice. The Chairman assured her that when police officials are commissioned, she would be asked to be present in the office of the commission.
