Bengaluru: At one hand when Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday invited BJP’s legislature party leader B.S. Yeddyurappa to form the government and take oath as the Chief Minister of the state today; while on another, Supreme Court refused to stay swearing-in ceremony of BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa as the Karnataka Chief Minister filed a last-minute petition in the apex court challenging the same.

Late last night, Congress and JD(S) challenged Karnataka Governor Vajubhai R. Vala’s decision to invite BJP to form the government even as the saffron party, with 105 MLAs, including one Independent MLA, is seven short of the halfway mark of 112.

Party’s spokesman Vamanacharya told IANS that Yeddyurappa would take oath on Thursday morning in the “Glass House” at Raj Bhavan in the city centre amid tight security.

Now take a moment to know about Vajubhai R Vala:

The Karnataka governor Vajubhai R Vala who has an experience of nearly six decades in public life is an old member of saffron party RSS and former cabinet colleague of Narendra Modi. He has served as finance, revenue, urban development, energy and petrochem in Gujarat, before serving as a speaker of state’s Assembly in 2012.

The 79-year-old Vala had won seven successive elections from the Rajkot and even vacated the seat to ensure a big win for Modi from the seat. The Karnataka governor had started the political career with RSS and remained associated with the party for 57 years. He had also co-founded Jan Sangh in Gujarat in 1971. He was even jailed during the emergency for 11 months.
