2 arrested for drug trafficking

New Delhi: Two persons have been arrested with three kilogrammes of heroin worth Rs 12 crore here, police said today.

Acting on a tip off, the police arrested the duo identified as Nitin Gupta and Hefajuddin from a hotel in Mahipalpur.

They told the police that the heroin had been brought from Myanmar and was to be supplied to different parts of India.

It has been found that they are members of a big international narcotic drug cartel being run by Shahyar alias Haidi, a Manipur-based drug supplier, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP (Special Cell).

“Hefajuddin had brought heroin to Delhi from Manipur by air yesterday. The drugs were wrapped in thick layers of carbon papers to avoid detection by scanners,” said the officer.

The elite Special Cell has been working on drug peddlers operating in the states of Manipur, UP, Delhi and Punjab.

After two months of collecting information, the members of the group were identified.

“Yesterday, specific information was received about an important member of the drug cartel who had arrived in Delhi and was staying in a hotel in Mahipalpur. It was also found that he would deliver a large consignment of heroin to one of their Delhi based conduits near Hotel Smart Stay, Mahipalpur,” the officer said.

The duo was interrogated following which they disclosed that they were members of an international narcotic drug cartel being run by the main kingpin Shahyar from Manipur, he said.

Hefajuddin has been working as carrier for Shahyar for the last five years. Shahyar supplies heroin to drug dealers based in Delhi, NCR, UP, Punjab in India and also in Nepal, the officer added.
