85-yr-old, Noor Mohammed struggling to keep alive art of marble carving

Faridabad: Age has not deterred 85-year-old, Noor Mohammed for struggling to keep the art of marble carving alive. He has been showcasing his work in Surajkund International Craft Mela for the past 20 years. He has been bestowed an award in the Mela in 2016. According to him, Noor Mohammed has learned the art from his elder brother Khuda Baksh. In 2011 BSNL had taken his snap while carving and the picture was printed on the BSNL calendar. Noor Mohammed also attends Taj Festival every year.

Noor Mohammed who has studied till 5th standard says many youth want to learn the art in Agra and he happily gives training to them. Over 100 people have learnt this art from him.

Noor Mohammed makes Taj Mahal, ball, lamp, cow, elephant, fish and other attractive arts from the marble. It takes one week to carve Taj Mahal and it costs Rs. 40000.
