Aasra pension for 57-year-olds from April: CS

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government was planning to provide Asara pensions to 57-year-old people in the State from April 1, 2019, Chief Secretary SK Joshi has said. He directed the officials concerned to prepare an action plan in this regard immediately.

In a press release here today, the Chief Secretary said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed the administration to take immediate measures to provide pension to those attaining 57 years of age.

It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister recently declared that on returning to power the TRS Government would extend pensions to this age group and gearing up for compiling data. The Chief Secretary asked the officials to take steps for getting all data from the districts and mandals for offering new pension from April 1, 2019. He said he would direct the Collectors on Thursday on the same issue and will ask them to speed up the process.

With this, some 20 lakh people are likely to get pensions with the government reducing the age from 64 to 57. The Collectors were already asked to prepare details. The government was preparing to double the pensions from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,016 to the existing pensioners and Rs 3,016 to physically challenged, who were drawing Rs 1,500. The Collectors will provide detailed lists to the local officials to finalize the beneficiaries with UID, bank account number, photo and put the data on the website.

Those who have annual income of Rs 1 lakh in the villages and Rs 2 lakh in the towns are eligible to receive pension. Thos who possess three acres wet land and 7.5 acre dry land in the villages will be eligible for pension. He asked the Collectors to take special care as the government aims to provide pension to all the eligible.
