Airports Authority of India co-sponsors run against drug abuse

New Delhi : On the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse, Airports Authority of India co-sponsored a short run in capital New Delhi to create awareness about the ill effects of drugs.

The theme of the event was: “Let’s Develop Communities without Drugs”.

The event was a joint effort by Airports Authority of India and various government ministries to promote awareness about drug abuse.

Union Minister of Social justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot flagged off the run at India Gate. Around 5000 people – both young and old – participated in the event.

“It is our endeavor to say no to drug abuse. This is second year in succession since we are supporting this event and we will continue to do that in future as well. The youth has to be sensitized against drug abuse. AAI wants to sensitize the youth of today to say no to drugs. Drug is not only harmful to the youth but the whole society will suffer because of this,” said S. Raheja, Chairman of Airport Authority of India.

People from various walks of life including students, NGO workers, defence and police personnel took part in the campaign.

This was Airport Authority of India’s second such initiative.

“This is the event which is being organized at the lawn of India Gate against drug abuse. We are spread across all places in India and 17000 employees are associated with this event. Last year also we participated in this event and this year also we are the main partners of this. We want to sensitize through this event about the drug abuse,” said Anuj Aggarwal, HR of Airport Authority of India.

The participation by the Airports Authority of India shows the great value it attaches with promoting awareness about social causes. (ANI)
