“Allah Hafiz” or “Khuda Hafiz”? – Maulana Ghousvi Shah clarifies

Hyderabad: Renowned cleric of the Muslims, Maulana Ghousvi Shah expressed his reaction on saying “Allah Hafiz” instead of “Khuda Hafiz” which has gained currency during the past few days. He clarified that “Khuda” is a Persian word which means “Allah (SWT)”. We say “namaz” to mean “Salat” and “Roza” to mean “Sowm”.

Quoting Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi, Dr. Iqbal, Maulana Maududi, Maulana Ahmed Raza Khan, Hazrat Anwarullah Khan, Mirza Ghalib and others, He said that all these scholars and writers have used the word “Khuda” in their writings and poems. However, it is not wrong to say “Allah Hafiz”. In the same manner, saying “Khuda Hafiz” is also correct. Saying “Khuda Hafiz” is ancient tradition of the Muslims. He therefore clarified that if any Sunni Muslim says “Khuda Hafiz”, one should not object. He further quoted that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in his book “Ghubar-e-Khatir” used the words “Khuda Hafiz”. Even today, Muslim scholars have continued saying “Khuda Hafiz”.
