“Assassination Could’ve Been Prevented,” says Mahatma Gandhi’s Secretary

Kalyanam, who was secretary to the Mahatma Gandhi said that Mahatma Gandhi had told authorities that he would leave Delhi if protection was given to him.

The father of the nation told the authorities that he does not want security even though there were warnings to him from the government several weeks ahead of his assassination that he faced threat to his life.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, Mr Kalyanam stated that “Had Gandhiji agreed to have security, people might have been frisked and his assassination could have been averted.”

In 1943 Mr Kalyanam joined Mahatma Gandhi as a secretary and served him till his death, when he was assassinated on January 30, 1948.

Martyrs day is celebrated on 30th of January every year as on the same day, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the year 1948.
