Maharashtra: Bheem army activists protested against violence committed on members of their community in Maharashrtra, at the collectorate.

Vaibhav Bawra, leader of the group protesting, submitted a memorandum addressed to the president, to the district magistrate.

The protesters raised slogans against the Maharashtra government and demanded that the government be removed over its failure to protect the Dalits.

To commemorate the British victory over Peshwas who were mainly Brahmins, Dalit groups were celebrating bicentenary of the Bhima-Koregaon battle in which the British defeated the Peshwas of Maharashtra. Dalit groups perceive the victory as symbol of Dalit assertiveness.
