BJP changes Muslim personal law but opposes centuries old custom change on Sabarimala?

‘Sabarimala, Triple talaq’ issues for the same ‘gender’ but BJP party opposes changes to centuries-old customs for one religion while passes an ordinance against the other religious laws?

New Delhi: The saffron party does not really seem to respect the Indian Judiciary with time and again giving bold statements on sensitive issues that usually criticize the apex court’s verdict.

This time BJP president Amit Shah has questioned why Kerala government is eagerly implementing SC’s order that has lifted the centuries-old ban on women aged between 10 to 50 years from entering the famous Sabarimala temple.

SC verdict has given equality to women while condemning the hegemonic patriarchy.

“There’s no need for an ordinance regarding the Sabarimala verdict. Regarding that, why wasn’t the Kerala government this proactive regarding other SC orders? Isnpoliticizationcisation?” he asked.

When asked why the saffron party is displaying double standards in supporting Muslim women in the triple talaq issue which was against the Muslim law and now opposing the same gender when it has come to Sabrimala Temple issue, he responded both the matters are two different issues, TOI reports.

“There are 13 temples in India where men are not allowed, you need to cover your head before entering any gurudwara. It is about respecting everyone’s sentiments. There are temples where men are not allowed, what do you want to do about that?” he asked.

Well was that a satisfying answer to the question to why BJP has tried to change the Muslim law by passing an ordinance such as that for Muslim women and are now opposing change even to the customs for Hindu women.

When asked why the party has acted without authority in the CBI issue, he replied the government has only acted to restore discipline and not to further any political agenda.

“Our government did not use CBI to send someone behind bars and settle any political scores. Here, two officers are at loggerheads with each other and both are being probed. They have been sent on leave, the CVC is conducting a probe and the SC is monitoring that. One of the SC judges is also monitoring the probe and even we said that the entire episode should be investigated,” Shah said.

Justifying BJP’s decision, he said that in order to be unbiased and neutral the two officers needed to leave.

“What will the government do if two top officers lodge complaints against each other? We can’t stand there as a mute spectator. Aren’t we supposed to investigate the corruption charge?” he asked.

When questioned on Congress president Gandhi’s statements on the Rafael deal he simply said: “As long as allegations don’t match your public character, there is nothing to worry. Secondly, I can assure you that not a single penny was siphoned off.”

BJP party chief also claimed that they will turn the tables again this time in poll-bound MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

“We have broken many such records in the past. I am sure we will break this record too,” he said.
