Congress blamed for neglecting Irrigation projects in Telangana

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday took pot shots against the Congress party for completely neglecting irrigation projects and doing immense injustice to Telangana.

Replying to a question in the Telangana Assembly, Harish Rao accused the previous Congress governments of totally neglecting irrigation projects in Telangana and pointed out that the Midmaneru project was a standing example in this regard. Though sanction was accorded to Midmaneru project in 1993, till 2006 the works were not taken up. Despite being in power till 2014, the Congress could not complete the project, he charged.

The Irrigation Minister said what the Congress could not do in 25 years, the TRS Government could do it in just three years. While the Congress governments could spend only Rs 106 crore on Midmaneru project, the TRS government spent so far Rs 461 crore to complete the works for storage of 10tmc of water in the reservoir. While the Congress could complete only 50,000 cft of concrete work, the TRS had completed 4.10 lakh cft of concrete work, he pointed out.

Harish Rao said the Midmaneru project would meet the irrigation needs of two lakh acres besides ensuring drinking water to the people under Mission Bhagiratha scheme. Drinking water would be provided to 466 villages by end of December in 18 mandals of Sircilla, Vemulawada and Choppadandi constituencies, he added. (NSS)
