Congress holds marathon to observe ‘black day’ in Chhattisgarh

Raipur (Chhattisgarh): Chhattisgarh Congress on Thursday organized a marathon here to observe ‘black day’ to mark the anniversary of demonetisation.

Scores of people took part in the marathon donning black garment to protest against the decision of note ban.

“One year ago on this date a tughlaqi decree was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And because of that lives of more than 35,000 families were destroyed. Number of them lost their lives. Nobody voted the government to witness so much of trouble,” a participant said.

He further averred that the decision did not bring ‘Acche Din’ as promised by the Prime Minister and this why they are observing ‘black day’.

“We have organised a marathon and will stage protest later in the day for the same. In the evening will also pay tribute to those people who lost their lives due to it,” he added.

On November 8 2016, the old Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes were scrapped after Prime Minister Modi in an unexpected announcement during a surprise television address.

He also gave the nation’s 1.3 billion people a 50-day window to either deposit them into bank accounts or exchange them for minted notes. (ANI)
