Court orders non-bailable warrant against Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani

New Delhi: A non-bailable warrant has been issued by a metropolitan court against Dalit activist, Jignesh Mevani, pertaining to a case of stopping Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express for several minutes.

During a ‘rail roko’ protest against Vibrant Gujarat Summit on January 11 this year, Mevani and his supporters had blocked Rajdhani Express at Ahmedabad railway station.

About 40 people are facing trial in the same connection. Mevani’s lawyer, Shamshad Pathan, had pleaded that the Dalit leader was busy filing nomination forms as an independent candidate from the Vadgam Assembly seat.

However, the Additional Metropolitan magistrate of the court, R S Langa, rejected the plea and issued warrants against Mevani and 12 others.
