Cyclone Titli: Death toll rises to 26 in Odisha

Bhubaneshwar: The death toll in cyclone Titli that made a landfall in the state of Odisha on October 11 has increased to 26.

The people died due to landslide, falling of trees, drowning, wall collapse, in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Keonjhar and Nayagarh.

Three districts of Odisha – Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada – were severely affected by cyclone Titli, heavy rains, and the subsequent floods earlier this month.

According to Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), more than 3.6 lakh people were evacuated to safer places and sheltered in relief centres.

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed the officials to provide an assistance of Rs 1000 along with 50 kg rice and 2-litre Kerosene to each ration card holder affected by cyclone Titli and its aftermath.

The remaining assistance of Rs 2000 will be transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries soon.

The Odisha government also announced to provide two months advanced ration to the people in the Gajapati district.
