Death rattle: Symptom that begins hours before person’s death, says doctor

Alabama [US]: Death rattle is a symptom that begins hours before the death of a person. This was revealed by Dr. Daniel Murrel of University of Alabama, US.

According to the report published in International Business Times, he said that during the process of death, rattling sound can be heard and breathing patterns may change.

Death rattle sound may be loud gurgling, snoring etc. Increase in wet noise can also be witnessed when a person breathes.

What leads to death rattle?

This symptom begins hours before the death of a person as he/she will not be able to swallow, cough, clear saliva and mucus from the back of the throat. This situation arises due to increase in secretion in the respiratory tract, IBT reports.

It may be mentioned that a normal person can clear these secretions easily, however, a person hours before his/her death finds it difficult to clear them.

It may be noted that the dying person might not be aware of “Death rattle”.
