Deepika Kumari disappointed after exit from individual recurve event

Jakarta: Indian archer Deepika Kumari on Thursday expressed disappointment over her exit from the women’s Individual Recurve event at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The 24-year had lost her pre-quarters clash 3-7 against Chieng-Ying Lei of Chinese Taipei in the event.

Speaking to ANI, Kumari said, “I am disappointed with myself. I started well but I could not perform well on the day.”

Reflecting on her upcoming recurve mixed team event, the archer said that she is looking forward to preparing for her next category match. “The game (today’s) has ended. I will prepare now prepare for the next event,” she added.

Kumari’s coach Sawaiyan Manjhi also expressed dismay over her defeat and said that they would work on her weak points. Manjhi further stated that after Asian Games, they will focus on the upcoming qualification round for the Tokyo Olympics.

The India archer will now participate in recurve mixed team event where she, along with Atanu Das, will take on Mongolian pair of Urantungalag Bishindee and Otgonbold Baatarkhuyag.

The Recurve Mixed Team event of archery is slated to be held on August 24.
