Delhi High Court grants interim relief to Karti Chidambaram

NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court has today granted Interim Relief to former Congress leader’s son Karti Chidambaram, observing ED cannot arrest Karti if gets bail by a trial court in the INX media.

The Court said that the ED cannot arrest the businessman until the next hearing in the case.

The three day custody of Karti ends today while CBI has sought custody of additional six days.

Karti Chidambaram’s lawyer Salman Khurshid said that they had earlier asked Supreme Court to cancel the summons by the ED because they anticipated “sequential arrests”.

“What we did in the Supreme Court was to anticipate sequential arrests, that when you get bail in one matter, then you are picked up in another matter… We wanted that to be clear… because the law doesn’t allow that to be done,” he had explained.

Karti was arrested last month on his arrival at Chennai Airport and has been in custody since 28 February, NDTV reported.
