Delhi: Hindu prisoners also observe fast during Ramadan

New Delhi: In the jails of Delhi, there are 16,665 prisoners out of which 2,658 are fasting.

According to the press note issued by jail administration, apart from Muslims, 31 Hindu women and 12 Hindu youths are also observing fast.

In order to provide food during ‘sehri’, the timings for serving food have been changed to facilitate those persons who are fasting.

The canteen of the prisons have arranged sufficient stock of Rooh Afza, dates and fresh fruits which the prisoners can buy.

In the statement made by the jail authorities, it was disclosed that the prisoners are allowed to offer namaz and observe fasting within the premises of the prison. For this purpose, permission has also been granted to religious and charitable institutions to offer food items to the prisoners.

Routine security arrangements are being observed in this regard.

It may be mentioned that Delhi has three jails namely; Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli.
