Delhi: Man shot dead in front of kids

NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified armed assailants on Sunday for opposing the sale of drugs in the area.

According to media reports, the incident took place in southeast Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar when the victim was identified as Rupesh was playing with children outside his house.

Rupesh’s family claimed that opposing the sale of drugs in the area might be the reason behind the attacked, they added.

“The two men shot him and then entered their Honda City car to flee. We rushed Rupesh to Holy Family Hospital, where he was declared dead. He suffered a bullet wound to the chest,” his uncle Jatan Chaudhary told The Indian Express.

Chaudhary alleged that the police personnel also did nothing to help. “Even a PCR van deployed nearby asked us to call control room,” he added.

A CCTV footage of the incident emerged on Monday shows two armed men sporting a cap walking up to Rupesh, who was standing with his two children outside his house, and shot him at point-blank range before fleeing the spot.

Soon after the attack, protests break out in the area where angry residents accusing the police of being hand in glove, burnt two motorcycles and pelted stones.

He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to injuries later.
