Delhi University students make short film, showcase Rohingyas’ destitution

New Delhi: Thirty students of Delhi University have made a short film showcasing the plight of Rohingyas. Shot partially in Kerala and around Delhi’s Kanchan Kunj, the film to show harsh reality that is often absent from media.

“We took a conscious decision to bring to the fore a few aspects of the lives of the refugees before the court’s verdict is announced,” said Mohammad Arshad, a third-year economics student of St Stephen’s, TOI reports.

The movie was shot using a metaphor, similar to the activities of ants about how they bustle around in search of food and shelter, Arshad added.

Ten students are from St Stephen’s, five each from Hindu, Ramjas, Kirori Mal and Miranda House.

The five-minute video is currently in the editing phase, whose narration is done by Rohingya refugees, talking about their lives and how people perceive them.

The film was previously named Upavahana, is set to release in November, and now titled “969”. The three digits symbolise virtues of Buddha and Buddhist practices.
