DU professor in trouble for using ‘obscene term’ for Hindu goddess Durga

New Delhi: A complaint has been filed against an assistant professor of Delhi University by a teacher’s body for insulting the Hindu goddess Durga on Facebook with obscene language.

Kedar Kumar Mandal is an assistant professor at DU’s Dyal Singh College. Mr Mandal had posted the controversial Facebook update at 07:43 pm on Friday and later deleted it.

DU professor’s Facebook post

His Facebook post hurt religious sentiments of several groups on the occasion of Navratri. The ABVP and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) have demanded the dismissal of the professor from DU administration.

A BJP-affiliated teacher’s body filed a complaint on Saturday at the Lodhi Colony police station. Police said they have received a complaint but are yet to file an FIR.

“We demand his suspension and we request the student community to boycott his classes. Mandal has provoked sentiments during a festival time of Hindu – Navratri,” ABVP’s Dayal Singh College unit said in a statement.
