“Ek dhakka aur do, Jama Masjid tod do”: activists at VHP rally in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Videos of right-wing activists shouting openly “anti-Muslim provocative slogans” and calling for demolition of the country’s largest and most important mosques- Jama Masjid circulated across social media platforms.

Thousands of demonstrators from RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal descended Delhi on Sunday to attend the Vishwa Hindu Parishad sponsored mega ‘Dharam Sansad’ at Ramlila Maidan to press their demand for the Ram Mandir construction at Ayodhya .

Videos posted online showed right-wing groups donning saffron caps, chants the demolition of  Delhi’s famous structure of 1656.  They were seen shouting, “Ek dhakka aur do, Jama Masjid tod do” – “With one more push, destroy the Jama Masjid.”

“It’s not about temples … It’s about hating Muslims, the reasons and demands keep changing,” one user responded to the clip on Twitter.

Ravi Nair, a journalist, wrote: “Just imagine if a Muslim organisation [was] asking to demolish a temple, how Modi govt and Mainstream Media would have reacted.”

he Babri Masjid, built by Mughal emperor Babur in 1578 in Ayodhya, was on December 6, 1992, pulled down allegedly by a group of Hindu activists, claiming that the mosque was constructed after demolishing a Ram Temple. Since then several hearings have been held in the top court to resolve the issue.

The Supreme Court in October adjourned the Ayodhya title suit till January 2019 to fix the date of hearing in the matter.
