Fake encounter case: SC issues notice to Yogi Government

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday has slapped a notice on Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh government in fake encounter case. It sought a response on a plea alleging that several fake encounters have taken place in the state in recent past.

The notice was issued by a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud. The PIL was filed by the People’s Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL) an NGO.

Lawyer Sanjay Parikh, appearing for PUCL, told that at least 500 encounters were carried out in UP recently, killing 58 persons.
